An Important Appointment For an Expectant Mother
- December 15, 2014
Learning that you are expecting is a perfect mixture of excitement and terror. You want to make sure that you are doing everything right, but that’s difficult to do when there are so many resources telling you different information! We can’t help you sort through all of that, but we can emphasize the importance of coming into the office for a dental appointment during your pregnancy. It will not only protect you but also your baby!
Pregnancy does funny things to your entire body, and your mouth is included. Your gums might become sore or bleed easily. In some extreme cases, women develop more severe gum sores and issues. Another risk for your gums is that of gum disease. While you are pregnant, you will have a higher risk of developing this infection, and it won’t just affect you. Gum disease is also linked with the rate of preterm birth. This dental appointment is important for both you and your baby!
Your Pregnancy Appointment
Coming into the office while you are pregnant is very important because your oral health can pose a risk for your unborn child. While you are here, we will do a cleaning and exam. With that cleaning, we can remove any signs of infection that we might find. We won’t take any x-rays or use anything that might harm the baby, but we will take care of any sort of work that is safe for you while you are pregnant.
Taking care of your entire body is important while you are expecting. We are especially concerned with your mouth and how it might in turn affect the health of your baby. Contact us today to learn more, and let us help you have the best pregnancy possible! We can’t wait to see you and your bump!
