Invisalign Clear Aligners
- June 11, 2014
Metal braces used to be the only solution for misaligned teeth. Modern dentistry provides a revolutionary method to straighten your smile using Invisalign. Dr. Doug Forbes of Total Dental Care of South Carolina uses clear aligners to correct bite problems such as gapped teeth, crowded teeth, overbite, underbite, open bite, and crossbite.
Invisalign is a set of aligners designed to move your teeth into place according to the plan prepared by your dentist. You can remove it when necessary. Simply take it out when you need to eat, drink, brush, or floss and then attach it afterwards. Make sure to wear it at least 20 to 22 hours a day.
Consult your dentist and discuss your concerns. During your consultation, he will explain the entire procedure including the requirements, length of treatment, costs, and insurance.
A complete examination of your teeth will be performed. He will assess your suitability for treatment by asking you take some tests. Once he determines that you’re qualified for the treatment, he will begin with the actual procedure by taking X-rays, pictures, and impressions of your teeth. The impressions will be used to create a virtual model of your teeth. Then, he will prepare a personalized treatment plan for you. You will see how your teeth will move in every stage. After this, the final design of your teeth will be forwarded to the laboratory for fabrication.
On your next visit, you will wear the first set of aligners for about two weeks and shift to the next stage until the desired result is achieved. In order to check your progress, you will need to visit your dentist every six weeks. Depending on your case, the treatment may take about a year.
